Education Studies Part

Finance & Business Law Ba Hons

The unit includes business applications relevant to the fashion industry including gaining a competitive advantage; project management; market research; marketing and branding; the business planning process and creating a business plan. Some jobs, such as retail management, are open to graduates from any degree discipline. This is because fashion degrees are very industry-specific and aren’t as transferable to a range of careers as degrees such as history, business and English are.

Critiques will involve you and your peers discussing and giving feedback on each other’s work. This will prepare you for life in the fashion industry where you’ll need to listen to – and not be upset by – constructive criticism. Working in partnership is fundamental to everything that we do in the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education; we could not achieve the things we do if we worked in isolation.

Courses

The average consumer purchases 60% more garments, disposing of roughly 35 Kg of clothing each year of which 13% is collected for re-use, 13% incinerated and the remaining 26 Kg buried in landfill . The United Nations has identified the fashion industry as an environmental and social emergency and is keen to turn it into a driver for the implementation of its 2015 Sustainable Development Goals . This module will introduce students to the concept of sustainability and the link between the UN’s SDGs, e.g. gender equality , hazardous chemicals , sustainable consumption and production , and the design and manufacture of fashion garments. This module will help students develop basic research skills as part of individual work on a topic of their choice. They will also enhance their communication and negotiation skills; and increase awareness of the importance of evidence-based thinking and reflective practice.

Lastly, we have our optional life drawing sessions which run every Thursday's afternoon is a great chance to have a little break from spending most of your time in your studio space working on your projects. Going to the life drawing session I have the great chance to see the human figure, as well as being given the fantastic opportunity to draw models. If you study abroad between your second and third year of study, you’ll pay no tuition fee to the partner university and no tuition fee to us either. We’ll ask you to make your decision in your second year, so there is plenty of time to think about it. Between your second and final year, you will have the option to study abroad or do a work placement for a year. This will not only give you an amazing experience to talk about, but you’ll also boost your cv.

Management Science Mphil, Phd

Students will engage in the process of analysing, designing, pattern cutting and manufacturing clothes. Exploring a variety of primary and secondary sources for research, compiling the findings, and translating them into both 2D and 3D outcomes. Practising a variety of techniques for communicating silhouette and detail through drawing, shape making, toiling and sampling. BA Fashion Design and Technology has an excellent reputation for producing menswear, womenswear and sportswear graduates who combine design innovation with an in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of fashion design and manufacturing. The University is pleased to offer our students a free printing allowance of £20 each academic year.
